European Politics and Policy in Practice: Study Visit to Brussels | UCL European Institute

From 19-21 February, EISPS students on the European Politics and Policy in Practice module offered by UCL European Institute travelled to Brussels to gain first-hand experience of how EU policymaking works in practice.
The 34 participating undergraduate students had the opportunity to interact with and learn from policy professionals working for the UK Mission to the EU, the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European External Action Service and the European Council.
Among others, students heard directly from Italian MEP Brando Benifei from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats on his work as both Chair of the Delegation for relations with the United States and Rapporteur on the AI Act, alongside presentations from European External Action Service officials on EU-China relations, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the role of Europe’s diplomatic service.
Students also had the opportunity to place the current policy landscape into historical context through a visit to the House of European History, and to take part in a workshop led by UCL alumnus and Associate Editor at Euractiv Owen Morgan, on communicating Europe.
This module is partially supported through a grant from the EU’s Jean Monnet programme under Erasmus+.
