The Philippine-American Performing Arts of Greater Pittsburgh hosts its annual “Ihaw-Ihaw at Halo-Halo” bake sale and fundraiser. Head to the Rose Barn in North Park on Sun., Aug. 10, from 12-6 p.m. for authentic Filipino dishes, priced at $15 a plate, and desserts. Last year’s offerings included street foods such as fish and squid balls, kikiam (a sausage-like roll), and halo-halo, a colorful shaved ice dessert topped with evaporated milk.

Community Kitchen Pittsburgh joins Catalyst Kitchens on Thu., Aug. 14, from 7-10 p.m. for Food is Community, a six-course gala dinner, celebration, and fundraiser at CCAC’s new Center for Education, Innovation and Training Building. Diners enjoy a six-course meal prepared by Pittsburgh chef teams from Community Kitchen, Altius, The Commoner, Apteka, and more, showcasing locally-sourced ingredients and supporting culinary education programs.

The gala is part of Catalyst Kitchens 2025 National Summit, a three-day event for nonprofits, social enterprises, and hunger relief organizations, being co-hosted by Community Kitchen. Food is Community will also be featured in the Jacques Pépin 90/90 Dinner Series, which spotlights 90s chefs at 90 events nationwide to celebrate the 90th birthday of famed French chef Jacques Pépin. Pépin will address Pittsburgh’s 90/90 Gala attendees via live feed. Gala dinner tickets cost $250 and can be purchased through Eventbrite.

Dine across the region when Pittsburgh Restaurant Week returns for the summer. From Mon., Aug. 11- Sun., Aug. 17, the self-described “most delicious time of the year” invites Pittsburghers to try specially-priced gourmet dishes and menus prepared by local chefs. The more than 40 participating restaurants include The Commoner with a three-course dinner for $49.25, a summer veggie meal with wine pairings at EYV Restaurant, and a grab-and-go meatball “mangia” special at Pane è Pronto. A new vending program proposal, designed to cut red tape for Pittsburgh food truck operators, has cleared the city’s Planning Commission. Proposed changes include a streamlined permitting process, eliminating the requirement that mobile vendors move locations every four hours, and a new allowance for group vending sites with multiple operators. Officials told TribLive the goal is to implement changes before the 2026 NFL Draft. The City is still accepting public feedback. Pittsburgh City Council will make a final decision on the measure when it returns from a summer recess in late August.

Better-Maid Donut is moving. The Crafton Heights donut shop announced the closure of its Steuben Street location on July 27. The business will relocate to a building nearby. A reopening date has not been set yet.

CAVA, a popular Mediterranean-inspired chain that offers customizable bowls and pita wraps à la Chipotle, will, on Fri., Aug. 8, open its first Pittsburgh location in Oakland. The Pitt News first announced the new location in March, when Pitt’s Hellenic Student Association said they’re excited to see more Greek food options in Pittsburgh. CAVA has a second location planned for the East End.
Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea

Squirrel Hill welcomed Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea, a Taiwanese bubble tea chain with locations throughout California and the East Coast. The shop, which serves a range of fruit teas, milk teas, and tea lattes, soft-opened its Pittsburgh store in the former Classic Lines Book Store space. As reported by the blog PennsylvAsia, Yi Fang joins similar shops in the neighborhood, including the dessert shop Mango Mango and the Tiger Sugar, Tsaaoca, and Meetcha tea shops.

Lawrenceville now has a place to grab late-night fries. Mr. Friez, a new eatery specializing in Belgian-style fries, celebrated its grand opening on Aug. 1. The restaurant claims to serve the “crispiest” fresh-cut, double-cooked Belgian fries and house-made dipping sauces, with an Instagram post teasing “late-night flavor.” Mr. Friez is now open Sun.-Thu. from 11 a.m.-1 a.m., and Fri.-Sat. from 11 a.m.-3 a.m.
